Sensorweb™ has been used in many horticultural environments for monitoring crop conditions and providing precision irrigation control. There are many climate variations even within a small farm that makes relying on the news a bad source of weather data. Using Sensorweb you can know the actual weather condition experienced by your crop. In addition you no longer need to stick your finger in the ground to determine how wet or dry the substrate is. Using sensors you can automate your irrigation cycles allowing you to take a day off and not worry about your crop. If you do worry you can use Sensorweb to remotely monitor your crop to quickly put yourself at ease.

Used for high value crops precision irrigation in greenhouses can be very valuable. By minimizing water, fertilizer usage from fertigation can be reduced while improving overall plant quality. In Maryland a grower was able to increase their number of Grade-A Snapdragons while reducing their overall water use!
Field nurseries are most often soil-based but can be containerized in the form of pot-in-pot systems. These environments are often drip-irrigated. By using precision irrigation less water is used to help control disease and reduce weed growth. In Maryland a grower with limited water was able to increase the number of trees he produced by using Sensorweb and precisely controlling irrigation.
A typical container-nursery may grow up to 250 species of plants at any given time, with may cultivars of each species it can be difficult to properly monitor and manage each species. Using precision irrigation, controlled from small portable nodes allows great flexibility to properly irrigate each species and change irrigation as the plants move and are sold. Overhead sprinklers can be turned on or off based on many factors including plant species, growth stage, and plant models. In a Georgia farm the grower was able to produce a 13 month crop in just 5 months using Sensorweb for precision irrigation.
Monitoring water and nutrients is especially critical for hydroponic growing systems. Sensorweb gives you the ability to carefully monitor current temperature and electro-conductivity, as well as trends; in both your plants and tanks.
